1,000th Member Celebration. There will be a party to celebrate Moku Loa’s 1,000th member. This is a milestone that we have been pursuing for many years. Come to Pavilion 1 at Wailoa River State Park in Hilo to help us celebrate this momentous event. Door prizes and other surprises await you. The party will run from 6-9:30 pm on Friday, March 28. Bring a salad or dessert to share; the Club will provide entrees and beverages. To help with the event or for further information call Phil Barnes (965-9695).
Slow Foods Hawai`i Presentation. The Club will sponsor a presentation by Slow Foods Hawai`i President Shelby Floyd. Slow Foods is an international movement dedicated to getting people eating locally grown foods. Not only do you get fresher and healthier produce and other foods, but you help to reduce your carbon footprint. Imagine how much fuel is consumed shipping oranges from Florida or flying in lobster from Maine. As Hawai`i strives to attain greater sustainability, the slow food movement is a huge component of self-sufficiency in the Islands. The presentation will be held at Kea`au Community Center on Monday, April 21 at 7 pm. Join us and become part of the solution to sustainability.
