Moku Loa Group

CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT
By Paul Campbell

Aloha Kakou! I have some great and exciting news: as prophesied in our last newsletter, as of Dec. 31, 2007 Moku Loa Group (MLG) topped the thousand-member mark with 1,006 members!! So we’re gonna celebrate (see Phil’s article below).

Al Gore gave Carl Pope, our National Executive Director, some advice when Carl was feeling down: NEVER GIVE UP! Now, as we turn the corner toward elections, a new enthusiasm and excitement is palpable nationwide. If you want to get involved with the political process and an historic election, MLG interviews local and state candidates each year to choose those whom we will endorse. Just contact Phil Barnes (965-9695), Roberta Brashear-Kaulfers (966-7002), or me (965-5460).

Another reason to get excited is the agenda for the State Legislative session this year: It could have been written by the Sierra Club! There are bills addressing invasive species, gmo taro, water quality and shoreline development issues, among others. Please pay attention to action alerts and stay in contact with your representatives and senators. This is the year we could turn Hawai`i around
!
Once again, Earth Day is just around the corner. We will have three venues again this year – April 18 at UH Hilo (see Roberta’s article below). In Waimea at Pukalani Stables, and at the Sheraton Keauhou in Kona. Dates are not yet known for the Waimea and Kona events. If you would like to help out at any of these, please contact any of the board members.

One of the great values I have come to embrace is the recognition that things do not have to be as they are. Every challenge has a solution. I believe the majority on the planet yearn for peace, harmony, abundance and equality. Maybe we do not have these because the majority does not yet believe it’s possible. Perhaps they do not think it’s possible because they believe we need to compromise and fit old ideas into new forms. I believe differently. Every solution begins in the consciousness of the one or ones who have a new idea, and are aware there is another way. What the world needs are new ideas!

Aloha and Mahalo,
Paul
