The Executive Committee (Ex-Comm) establishes the Chapter's environmental policies, oversees publication of the Malama, coordinates activities of the local groups, determines the budget, raises funds, recruits members, makes political endorsements and lobbies the legislature and administrative agencies. The nominating committee has nominated the following candidates for three positions on the Ex-Comm:
Lisa Keala Carter is a third-generation kama'aina. She has worked at both the Legislature and City Council. She has spent years fighting for open space, most recently as spokesperson for the Ka Iwi Action Council. As a mother of three small boys, she wants to protect the beauty of these islands.
Lucienne de Naie served on Ex-Comm this past year and is the delegate to national meetings. She also serves as the Maui Groups Outing's Chair. She is a farmer, writer and artist with extensive grassroots organizing experience in California and Maui. She would like to focus her efforts at increasing the Club's media presence in Hawai'i and increasing funds for the Chapter.
Anna Hoover is a past member of the Board of Directors of the League of Women Voters. Her experience on numerous political campaigns and at the City Council have taught her the skills of successful grassroots organizing. She has researched and advocated on water rights, clean air, solid waste management and energy issues. She hopes to get out on more hikes in the near future.
Teresa McHugh is an active member of the Ka Iwi Action Council. She has experience in the Legislature as a staff attorney working on natural resource issues. Although her work on protecting the Sandy Beach coastline has been her starting point for her activism, she hopes to devote her energy to a broad range of environmental issues. She would like to see the outings mission and the conservation mission of the Chapter succeed so that our resources are protected for all of us to enjoy.
Mike Smith is a recent UH graduate and currently assistant Treasurer for the Ex-Comm. He researched environmental issues while working at the Legislature. He was a co-founder and Vice President of Folks for Spokes, which successfully lobbied for increased funding for bicycling infrastructure. Mike is also an avid hiker.
