YOSHIOKA BRINGS IN MEMBERS

by Annette Kaohelaulii

Mel Yoshioka, O'ahu Group outings leader, is suc cessfully recruiting new members for Sierra Club through the Club's Outings Recruitment Program. Close to 100 members have joined or renewed so far this past year as a result of Mel's promo tions.

Christine Schmidt, an intern in the national office, found Mel so delightful to work with that she wrote a feature on the O'ahu Group outing re cruitment program for all the chapters.

The article notes: "The variety of Oahu Group's outings and the success of its recruitment and renewal efforts are a tribute to Mel Yoshioka's involvement and leadership in the Sierra Club. While his commitment to exploring, enjoying and preserving Hawaii's environment is undoubtedly inspiring to his outing participants, Mel also pro vides a model for others wishing to be involved in the environmental protection mission of the Si erra Club."

All of the outing leaders and hike participants who have enjoyed being with Mel should know how devoted he is to promoting outings and membership. All of us in Hawaii Chapter should thank Mel for the great job he is doing and let him know how proud we are to have him on our team.
