GENERAL CONSERVATION POLICY

1. It shall be the policy of Sierra Club, Hawai`i Chapter, to support actions that will protect the land, water, and ocean resources of Hawai`i from environmentally damaging and other inappropriate uses, and actions that will preserve those resources for future generations.

2. It shall be the policy of Sierra Club, Hawai`i Chapter, to support actions that will protect and nurture the endemic flora and fauna of Hawai` i, especially threatened and endangered species, and that will enhance their natural habitats.

3. It shall be the policy of Sierra Club, Hawai`i Chapter, to support actions that will ensure the availability and the natural character of wilderness, coastal, and nearshore recreation areas of Hawai`i and that will secure non-motorized public access to those areas.

4. It shall be the policy of Sierra Club, Hawai`i Chapter, to support conservation of energy and development of sources of energy for Hawai`i that will work toward the state's energy self-sufficiency and that will be consistent with other conservation policies of the Chapter.

5. It shall be the policy of Sierra Club, Hawai`i Chapter, to support actions that will preserve the character and the atmosphere of rural, scenic and historic areas of Hawai`i.

6. It shall be the policy of Sierra Club, Hawai`i Chapter, to support actions that will stabilize the population of Hawai`i in order to avoid exceeding the carrying capacity of the state's limited natural resources.

General Conservation Policies 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5 were approved by the Sierra Club Hawai`i Chapter Executive Committee at its quarterly meetings held July 15-17, 1988. General Conservation Policy 6 was approved by the Sierra Club Hawai`i Chapter Executive Committee at its quarterly meetings held January 24-26, 1992.
