Kealakekua Bay, Hawai'i

At Kealakekua Bay, ancient heiau, burial sites, historic trails, and a monument marking the site of Captain Cook's death make this wild coastline a place of prime historical importance, attested by its selection as a site on the National Register of Historic Places. Kealakekua Bay is also famous for its pristine waters and world class diving. The bay is a Marine Life Conservation District with spectacular diversity of marine life. Construction of massive luxury subdivisions and golf courses north of the bay threaten Kealakekua Bay's unique qualities. One such development recently ruined fragile corals with soil runoff.
